About the Vice Rectorate
UNU-ViE is the first Vice Rectorate of the United Nations University (UNU) outside the headquarters in Tokyo, Japan. Established in May 2007 in Bonn, it strengthens the UNU´s presence in Europe.
UNU-ViE concentrates on questions related to ‘Science and Technology to Ensure Human Security’. ViE initiates, supports, and co-ordinates projects and exchange programmes that aim at knowledge capacity development and transfer. Additionally cooperation with various partners is a key priority.
The Vice Rectorate is structured into two sections:
- Strategic Partnerships, Capacity Development and Science Policy Dialogues Section (SCIENTIA) SCIENTIA supports the development of research and science based policy programmes and explores innovative pathways to advance capacity development with a special focus on e-learning and knowledge management in the higher education context in developing countries.
- Institutional Development and Planning Section (IDEAS) IDEAS is actively involved in establishing new UNU-RTC/Ps, it serves as facilitator for twinning activities of UNU and its RTC/Ps and is the networking focal point for Europe, Africa and Russia.
UNU-ViE is also the host entity of the “International Human dimensions Programme” (IHDP) and the “UN-Water Decade Programme on Capacity Development” (UNW-DPC).
UNU-ViE offers for all four entities UNU-ViE, UNU-EHS, UNU-IHDP and UNW-DPC general services such as finance and administration; and information technologies services and consists of four central units:
- Information and Communication Unit
provides services for UNU-ViE and UNU-EHS.
- External Relations, Outreach and Internship Programme Unit provides services for UNU-ViE and UNU-EHS.
- Information and Communication Technology Unit
provides services for UNU-ViE, UNU-EHS, UNW-DPC and UNU-IHDP.
- Administration and Finance Unit
provides services for UNU-ViE, UNU-EHS, UNW-DPC and UNU-IHDP.
