South African "Green Talent" joins UNU Bonn

In the framework of a research stay, environmental scientist Paul William Jorgensen from South Africa will stay at the United Nations University (UNU) Bonn u ntil January 2012 . As a winner of the 2010 International Green Talents Competition , he will contribute to the “Sustainable Land Management in the High Pamir and Alai Mountains” (PALM) project . United Nations University Institute to be established in Maputo, Mozambique: 2nd Scoping Workshop paves the way

Bonn/Maputo, 24 October 2011. The United Nations University will establish an Institute for Integrated Management of Material Fluxes and of Resources (UNU-FLORES) in Maputo, Mozambique. The workshop in Maputo (24-25 October 2011) is paving the way for the formal establishment of the Institute. UNU-FLORES will have campuses (Twins) in Maputo/Mozambique and Dresden/Germany. High-ranking delegates will clarify the Institute´s scope and mission, work-plan and research priorities.

Made possible through the cooperation between UNU and the Disaster Management Training and Education Center for Africa of the University of the Free State (UFS-DiMTEC) , Ms. Kehinde. E. Balogun joins UNU-ViE and UNU-EHS as visiting researcher . She is currently finalizing her Master thesis at UFS-DiMTEC. Until the end of October 2011, Ms. Balogun will work together with UNU-EHS scientists through a mentor/protégé relationship on her Master thesis. | Read more

Environmental researcher Tonni Kurniawan, 35, is a 2010 winner of the International Green Talents Competition. He has been recognized for his work on new energy-efficient and environment friendly solutions to treat contaminated water. During his research stay at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the University of Eastern Finland he applied various approaches in his quest to capture water directly from non-traditional sources, such as municipal wastewater, and restore it to near drinking water quality. |Read more
