Mainstreaming Open Education: Join our virtual workshop series

5-10 March 2012 has been declared the first annual Open Education Week. A global event, Open Education Week seeks to raise awareness about the benefits of free and open sharing in education, especially Open Educational Resources (OER). Within the framework of the “Mainstreaming Open Education” workshop (5-10 March 2012), UNU-ViE organizes a session on "Certification of OER-based Learning" on 8 March 2012.

Mainstreaming Open Education: Workshop programme

The overall virtual workshop asks what is holding back Open Education (OE) and looks into mainstreaming strategies at institutional level, from best practice to lessons learned. It provides a slideshow on key definitions and aspects of OE, and is then delivered via etherpad, with (a)synchronous Q&A and collaborative development sessions. Each day around an hour of synchronous chat feeds into asynchronous discussions, all of which are moderated by UNU-ViE and its partners and like-minded. This will lead to concrete conclusions by the end of the week.

Background: Open Education Week

Open Education Week is being planned by representatives of Open Education institutions and organizations from around the world and coordinated by the OpenCourseWare Consortium.  Global events will feature projects and resources as well as more general information about the OER movement.  Live webinars will be scheduled in different time zones and languages throughout the week.  Information and pre-recorded presentations also will be available on the website, along with a virtual tour of a variety of open educational projects and available OER.  All virtual and live events are free and open to the public.  Visit www.openeducationweek.org for more information.
