United Nations University

The United Nations University (UNU) is the academic arm of the United Nations. It bridges the academic world and the United Nations system. Its goal is to develop sustainable solutions for current and future problems of humankind in all aspects of life. Through a problem-oriented and interdisciplinary approach it aims at teaching, applied research and education on a global scale. UNU was founded in 1973 as an autonomous organ of the United Nations General Assembly. The University comprises headquarters in Tokyo, Japan, and more than a dozen Institutes and Programmes worldwide.

Sustainable capacity development in Africa: UNU workshop successfully concluded

Within the framework of this year´s Deutsche Welle Global Media Forum, UNU hosted and moderated a session on Sustainable Capacity Development in Africa: Selected case studies from the United Nations. About 100 participants attended the workshop on 26 June 2012.

Being organized in close collaboration with the UN Volunteers (UNV) and the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), the workshop offered insights in different United Nations initiatives and projects, such as the UNU Priority Africa initiative, the UNV online volunteers or the Teaching Resource Kit for Drylands Countries
