Africa-focused UNU projects

The United Nations University (UNU) is currently engaged in over 50 projects focused on Africa. Please find below a list of Africa-focused UNU projects. [Stocktaking: October 2011]

  1. African Nutrition Leadership Programme (ANLP)

    ANLP is a leadership development and networking seminar aimed at assisting the development of future leaders in the field of human nutrition in Africa. Emphasis is placed on understanding the qualities and skills of leaders, team building, communication and nutrition information in a broader context, and to understanding the role of nutrition science in the world around us.

  2. Evaluation of Development Programmes in Nutrition and Health

    This research seeks to assess the impact of school feeding and deworming (as a package of programmes or multiple treatments) on school performance (test scores), retention (drop-out rates) and repetition rates, while elaborating on the determinants of school performance.

  3. IS Academy on Migration and Development

    The main objectiveof the IS Academie is to strengthen the quality of policies in the area of development cooperation through the interaction between policymakers and academia.

  4. Knowledge, Attitudes, Practices and Empowerment (KAPE)

    Understanding knowledge, attitudes and practices around water and sanitation and raising awareness about the linkages between water, environment and health in order to empower communities to be able to address their own water-related challenges.

  5. Postgraduate Fisheries Training for Professionals from Less Developed Countries

    The UNU Fisheries Training Programme is a postgraduate training programme that offers applied training in various areas of the fisheries sector for practicing professionals in the less developed countries.

  6. Regional Centres of Expertise for Education for Sustainable Development

    A Regional Centre of Expertise (RCE) is a network of existing formal, non-formal and informal education organizations, mobilized to deliver education for sustainable development (ESD) to local and regional communities.

  7. Research and Training Support to Build African Capacity in Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators

    The project built capacity through generating case studies that can be used to resolve problems and to identify possible indicators of innovation. The case study teams learned how to respond to a call for proposals, to conduct case study research, to prepare reports and to present their work at conferences.
